11 – Falegnameria

Carpentry
Initially the building was used as a turnery, later as a carpentry endowed with all the necessary equipment to fulfill the needs of the mine. The carpentry produced furniture, doors, windows, cabinets, chairs, tables, guides for the cages of the shafts and wooden models to create spare parts for all the machines of the mines, hardly available in the aftermarket that, at that period, was not sufficiently organized.
In 1944, due to the war, almost all mining activities were suspended. Therefore, the salaries of the maintenance department’s spare members of staff could be paid thanks to contract work revenues.
Among other things, the chairs and all the furniture of the Olimpia Theater of Cagliari were produced here.
Inside the building some original equipment are still kept.
